For generations, our family has carried forward a treasured recipe for what we lovingly call Lila Jane’s Cookies. Although we can trace it back to Amelia Baird, we believe this recipe goes back even further in our family’s history.

The story begins in the 1850s with Amelia Baird in the Scottish Highlands. Her daughter, Emma Baird-Johnston, continued the tradition and passed the recipe down through the family. Emma’s daughter, Elizabeth (Lila) Jane Johnston-Thomasson, was born in Belfast, Ireland, in 1902. In 1920, Lila immigrated to Canada, bringing with her not just her dreams, but this cherished family recipe.

Lila baked these cookies with love for holidays and special occasions, and she passed the tradition to her daughter Patricia (born 1929). From Patricia the recipe went to Susan, then to Jane, and then to Jane’s children — Michaela, Emma, Kenna, and Jackson. Today, Michaela’s children, Adaline and Wesson, represent the newest generation to enjoy these family biscuits.

These cookies — known simply as “biscuits” in our family — have been made with butter, care, and generations of love. What began as a quiet family recipe in Scotland and Ireland is now, for the very first time, being shared with the world.

Sweet Adalines is proud to carry on this beautiful legacy. Our two-year-old CEO, Adaline, is the 3x great-granddaughter of Ameila Baird and continues the sweet tradition started so many years ago.
